Resin chemistry is a second variable. Polyester, epoxy and urethane backing systems may present different bonding surfaces even if the finished slabs are all described commercially as “mesh backed.”
Polyester resin can create a relatively smooth or waxy surface that interferes with adhesion. Aggregate broadcast into resin can create a rougher surface and improve mechanical grip, but compatibility still depends on the specified setting system.
Buyer judgment: “Mesh-backed marble” is not enough information to select an adhesive. The project needs to know what actually covers the back of the stone.
