The order covered two products: cut-to-size granite pool coping at 1000 × 350 × 20 mm, and granite poolside paving at 1000 × 1000 × 30 mm, both in the medium-grain selection with a flamed finish. Every special piece was produced from the approved pool drawings, and fabrication took approximately 20–25 days. We stock it in more than one grain selection, and for this order we used the medium grain. Appearance was part of that decision, but production came first. From our own fabrication experience, the medium grain holds up consistently through repeat cut-to-size work, and this order had to leave the factory as one coordinated package: straight coping, corner pieces and large paving units for seven separate pools. Buyers who know Chinese G654 often look at the Cambodian material as an alternative — they are different stones, but the dark-grey tone and compact granular surface read similarly at project scale. The slabs we selected for Belgium had a consistent grey background and an even medium-scale grain. Flaming lightens and textures the surface, so the finished pool surrounds sit matte in the landscape, without the sheen of polished G654. Coping and paving were being cut for seven pools, so visible variation across the full production quantity mattered as much as the stone itself. 01 Calacatta Viola Project Overview We recently completed a full-container Calacatta Viola project for a new customer in Florida, USA. The marble was mainly intended for a long-term furniture and bathroom program. From the beginning, the customer's requirement was clear: he wanted a reliable supplier who could provide beautiful Italian Calacatta Viola with relatively consistent color and vein movement. At the same time, the project had a fixed material budget. That combination made the job more difficult. For a material like Calacatta Viola, finding one impressive block is not especially hard. Finding a group of blocks that look good together, work well for fabrication and still stay within budget is a very different job. We wanted a perfect result, but we also had to respect the customer's numbers. Different Calacatta Viola origins can produce very different visual effects, and even within the same source, finding the right balance of creamy background, burgundy breccia, vein movement and price takes careful selection. For this project, our advantage was simple but important: we had enough Calacatta Viola blocks available to choose from. More stock meant we did not have to persuade the customer to accept whatever happened to be available. We could compare different blocks, remove the weaker choices and keep looking until the color, pattern, usable area and price came together. 02 Finding the Right Blocks Before Cutting We take this kind of selection quite seriously because most expensive mistakes happen before the block ever reaches the saw. At the start of the project, we arranged a face-to-face video meeting with the customer. A short conversation was much more useful than another long exchange of photos and messages. During the meeting, we found that the customer was very particular about the creamy white background, the amount of wine-red and purple breccia, and how much variation would be acceptable between different slabs. So we did not start sending blocks immediately. First, we turned those preferences into a simple visual PPT. It showed what we considered acceptable, what should be avoided and which types of Calacatta Viola should receive priority. That became our working standard for the project. This visual experience helped us communicate much faster because we already had clear references for different color and vein directions. After the standard was confirmed, our team checked the available inventory and shortlisted more than a dozen blocks. This is a part of the job where we are quite confident.
