Carrara Chevron Mosaic

Carrara Chevron Marble Mosaic creates a much stronger directional effect than Octagon or Hexagon. The repeated V-shaped geometry pulls the eye along the surface, while Carrara's grey veining adds a second layer of natural movement within each chip.

The Carrara Chevron shown here is combined with narrow decorative accent strips. The accent lines reinforce the direction of the pattern and create a more decorative surface than a pure Carrara geometric mosaic.

Chevron works particularly well where the entire direction of the pattern can be read clearly, such as a kitchen backsplash, vanity backsplash, shower feature wall or decorative wall panel.

For this Chevron pattern, retained product information includes a sheet size of approximately 12.4" × 12", coverage of approximately 1.03 sq.ft, 1" × 4" Carrara pieces and narrow 1/4" × 4" accent strips. The pattern contains approximately 60 pieces per sheet at 5/16" thickness and is available in polished or honed finishes.

Carrara Hexagon Mosaic

Carrara Hexagon Marble Mosaic sits between a strongly decorative mosaic and a small-format stone tile. Its repeating six-sided geometry is easy to read, but the amount of visible Carrara character depends heavily on the size of each hexagonal chip.

Smaller hexagons create more grout lines and emphasize the repeating geometry. Larger hexagons preserve a larger surface area within each individual piece, allowing Carrara clouding and grey veining to remain more visible.

Carrara Scallop and Fan Mosaic

Scallop and fan patterns create a different visual language from straight-edged Hexagon or Octagon mosaics. Their repeating curves produce a softer wave-like rhythm and make the mosaic itself a decorative feature.

The retained Carrara Scallop product uses a sheet of approximately 297 × 257 × 8 mm with 48 scallop pieces and a honed finish.

Curved Leaf Decorative Carrara Mosaics

Carrara Marble Mosaic for Shower Floors

Small-format Carrara mosaics are particularly useful on shower floors because smaller pieces can follow multi-directional slopes toward a point drain more easily than larger-format stone.

Small Hexagon, Square and other compact repeating patterns therefore have a practical advantage where the shower base changes direction. Larger mosaic pieces retain more Carrara veining but require greater attention to the geometry of the shower base and drain layout.

For a shower floor, chip size should be considered together with the drain and slope—not only the appearance of the pattern.

Shower Walls and Bathroom Feature Walls

Shower walls do not have the same multi-directional floor-slope requirement, so pattern selection can focus more heavily on appearance.

Chevron produces strong directional movement. Scallop creates a softer curved rhythm. Decorative leaf patterns create a more fluid and organic surface. These patterns are particularly useful when the mosaic is intended to become a focal point rather than a neutral background.

Carrara mosaics also do not need to cover an entire bathroom. A more complex mosaic can be used for a shower panel, niche, vanity wall or decorative insert while simpler Carrara field tiles cover the surrounding surface.

Kitchen and vanity backsplashes are especially suitable for directional and decorative Carrara mosaics because they are relatively flat surfaces viewed from close range.

Chevron emphasizes direction, Scallop introduces repeated curves, Octagon creates a more structured geometric field, and mixed-material accents can increase or soften contrast. The backsplash therefore allows the pattern to become a visible design element without requiring the same floor-slope considerations as a shower floor.

Bathroom Floors, Powder Rooms and Entryways

Repeated geometric mosaics such as Octagon, Basketweave and Hexagon work well when the pattern is intended to define a larger floor area rather than serve only as a small decorative insert.

Octagon with black dots creates a more pronounced grid, while grey dots produce a softer tonal field. Basketweave introduces a traditional woven rhythm. Hexagon produces a more continuous geometric repeat and can reveal more or less Carrara veining depending on chip size.

Carrara Mosaic Pattern and Sheet Specifications

A Carrara mosaic specification should distinguish the overall sheet from the individual stone pieces. For irregular or interlocking patterns, actual sheet coverage is also more useful for quantity calculation than relying only on nominal outside dimensions.

Mesh-Mounted Sheets and Pattern Continuity

Mesh backing keeps the individual stone pieces organized within each mosaic sheet and maintains the intended geometry during handling. It does not, however, remove the need to align adjoining sheets correctly.

For a clean finished surface, the spacing between adjacent sheets should remain visually consistent with the spacing between chips inside each sheet. Directional patterns such as Chevron require particular attention so that the pattern continues without a visible interruption at the sheet boundary.

Carrara Variation Across Mosaic Sheets

Natural Carrara variation should be considered at more than one scale. Individual chips can differ in background tone and grey veining, while several sheets installed together determine how that variation appears across the final surface.

Smaller chips distribute Carrara variation across many individual pieces. Larger Hexagon or decorative chips preserve more recognizable clouding and veining inside each stone piece.

For projects where overall color distribution matters, several sheets should be viewed together rather than judging the material from one chip or one sheet alone.

Basic Installation Considerations

Installation is not identical for every Carrara mosaic pattern, but several points are useful across many projects:

• Review several sheets together before installation, especially for directional or decorative patterns.
• Dry lay complex patterns where sheet transitions and material distribution need to be checked.
• Keep the joint between adjoining sheets visually consistent with the internal mosaic joint.
• White setting mortar is generally preferred for light-colored Carrara because darker mortar can affect the apparent color of pale natural stone.
• Grout color changes how strongly the individual mosaic geometry is outlined.
