  • Product Detail

We fabricated 24 custom Aran White Marble columns for a landmark mosque project in Uzbekistan. The complete column package was produced from Turkish Aran White Marble and combined segmented curved construction, 5-axis CNC machining, hand-finished Islamic ornamental carving, factory dry layout and trial assembly. Each column was divided into nine assembly sections and manufactured as part of one coordinated architectural set. The custom fabrication and factory preparation for the 24 columns required approximately three months.

Aran White Marble Selection for 24 Mosque Columns

For a project with 24 architectural columns, selecting one attractive marble piece at a time is not enough. The complete set must maintain a consistent overall background and visual character after installation.

Aran White Marble was selected for its light, warm white appearance and suitability for large architectural surfaces and carved details. During material selection, we reviewed the stone for overall tone and rejected pieces with obvious red veins, black spots, cracks or other markings that would interrupt the consistency of the finished column group.

The important judgment is consistency across the package. A marble section may look acceptable when viewed alone but still be unsuitable for a 24-column project if its tone differs visibly from the surrounding columns. We therefore evaluate the material as a complete architectural set rather than only by individual-piece quality.

Material allocation also follows the final architectural position. Large smooth shaft areas expose more of the natural background, while carved capitals, decorative bands and transitional elements break the surface into smaller details. Cleaner and more balanced sections are therefore reserved for the most visually exposed areas.

Why We Recommend Segmented Curved Marble Columns

Excellent Stone can produce solid marble columns, but for large decorative columns we generally recommend segmented curved construction when the architectural design allows it.

The main reason is project economics. A solid marble column requires a sufficiently large raw block, and substantial stone is removed during turning and shaping before the final cylindrical surface is achieved. The buyer therefore pays for raw material, processing and freight associated with a large stone volume that does not contribute to the visible architectural surface.

Segmented curved construction uses marble primarily where the finished surface is required. This improves raw-material utilization and avoids carrying unnecessary internal stone volume.

It also improves logistics. Hollow curved components are lighter and more efficient to pack and transport than a full solid-marble column of the same architectural size. Across a multi-column project, the savings in stone consumption and freight can become significant.

For monumental decorative columns, a solid marble core often increases project cost without adding visible architectural value.

This is why we normally recommend segmented curved construction for large decorative columns when the design permits it. Solid columns remain available where the project specifically requires them.

Precision Cutting and Joint Control for a Seamless Column Surface

The cost advantage of segmented construction depends on fabrication accuracy. The technical challenge is not simply producing curved pieces. Each segment must form part of the same cylindrical surface after assembly.

The critical controls include:

  • curved radius and segment geometry;
  • matching mating edges;
  • finished column diameter;
  • joint width;
  • surface level across adjoining pieces;
  • adhesive color;
  • grinding and polishing across the assembled seam.

If the radius is inaccurate, the assembled shaft loses its circular geometry. If the mating edges are inconsistent, the joint becomes wider or creates a visible step. Even a narrow seam can remain obvious if adjacent surfaces do not finish at the same level or reflect light differently.

We therefore treat cutting, bonding and final surface finishing as one fabrication sequence. Precision-cut edges reduce the physical joint, controlled adhesive bonding limits color contrast at the seam, and final grinding and polishing restore one continuous surface across adjoining components.

A well-made segmented marble column should not visually announce where it was segmented.

Column Drawings, Shaft, Capital, Base and Carving Details

Custom mosque columns must be produced from architectural drawings rather than only from an overall height and diameter.

The production drawing defines the geometry and relationship between the different column components, including the shaft, carved transitions, decorative bands, capital-related elements and lower architectural sections.

Drawing Item Production Control
Overall column height Complete assembly dimensions
Finished diameter Curved-segment radius and geometry
Shaft dimensions Main column profile
Capital geometry CNC machining and carving
Base and lower transitions Alignment and installation interface
Segment divisions Fabrication and packing sequence
Joint positions Assembly planning
Decorative bands Carving location and continuity
Installation reference Numbering and site sequence

The nine assembly sections of each column are therefore not treated as unrelated pieces. They form one architectural elevation, and every section must correspond to its position in the approved drawing.

This is particularly important where the smooth shaft transitions into carved architectural elements. The geometry of each transition must correspond with the sections above and below it.

5-Axis CNC Machining and Hand-Finished Islamic Carving

The project combines machine-controlled geometry with hand-finished decorative work.

5-axis CNC machining is used for repeated curved geometry and complex three-dimensional forms where dimensional consistency is required across all 24 columns. This is particularly important when the same architectural profile or carved transition must be reproduced many times.

CNC machining, however, does not replace hand finishing. The mosque columns include geometric and floral ornamental details that require refinement after machine shaping. Hand finishing is used to clean carved lines, refine transitions, remove machining marks and complete the final surface.

5-axis CNC controls repeatability and geometry across the column set.

Hand finishing controls ornamental detail and final surface quality.

1:1 Factory Dry Layout and Trial Assembly

Factory checking is divided into two stages because individual components and the complete column require different forms of verification.

Horizontal 1:1 Dry Layout

The horizontal dry layout is used to verify the production package before packing.

For each column, we check:

  • whether all required components are present;
  • component order;
  • marble tone between adjoining sections;
  • carving sequence;
  • joint locations;
  • correspondence with the production drawing;
  • piece numbering.

The purpose of dry layout is not to eliminate natural marble variation. It is to identify incorrect grouping, missing components, unsuitable adjacent pieces or sequence errors while changes can still be made in the factory. For a 24-column project, this converts hundreds of individual stone components back into organized column sets before export.

Vertical Trial Assembly

Vertical trial assembly answers a different question: does the column work as a complete architectural object?

Once selected components are assembled upright, we review:

  • overall column geometry;
  • shaft straightness;
  • transitions between smooth and carved sections;
  • visible joint appearance;
  • overall proportions.

Horizontal dry layout verifies the production package; vertical trial assembly verifies the finished column.

Numbering, Packing and Installation Preparation

The 24 columns contain multiple fabricated sections, so every component must remain traceable to the correct column and installation position.

Numbering is retained through factory checking and packing so installers can identify which components belong together and in what order they should be assembled.

Packing is designed according to component geometry. Smooth curved shaft sections require protection along their edges and polished faces. Carved capitals and decorative elements need additional protection around projecting details and corners. Components are secured in reinforced export packing while keeping their identification visible.

Segmented construction also makes the shipment more manageable. Hollow curved components can be packed and handled more efficiently than full solid-marble columns, which reduces unnecessary transported stone weight and simplifies movement of individual sections.

24 Custom Marble Columns Completed in About Three Months

The complete package included 24 custom Aran White Marble columns and required approximately three months of custom fabrication and factory preparation.

The production scope covered:

  • material selection;
  • production drawing review;
  • segmented curved fabrication;
  • 5-axis CNC machining;
  • hand finishing;
  • joint preparation;
  • horizontal 1:1 dry layout;
  • vertical trial assembly;
  • numbering and QC;
  • export packing.

This three-month period refers to the custom column fabrication and factory preparation for this project, not the standard lead time for ordinary marble slab supply.

Custom Aran White Marble Column Supply for Mosque Projects

For large mosque and architectural column projects, we evaluate construction method, material use, fabrication difficulty and logistics together rather than automatically recommending solid marble.

Where the design permits, segmented curved construction can reduce raw-material consumption and freight cost without changing the intended visual scale of the column. Its success depends on accurate curved fabrication, controlled bonding and joint finishing.

Excellent Stone can produce both solid and segmented marble columns according to project requirements. For large decorative columns, segmented curved construction is often the more efficient solution when material utilization, transportation and finished appearance are considered together.

Custom Mosque Marble Column Projects: Send us the architectural drawings, required column height and diameter, capital and base details, carving design, quantity and installation requirements.
