Carrara White Marble, also known as Bianco Carrara Marble, is a natural Italian marble quarried in the Carrara area of Tuscany. It is recognized by its white to grey-white background, fine grey veining and relatively soft, low-to-medium contrast.

Italian Carrara Blocks, Cut and Selected in Our Own Facility

Excellent Stone imports Bianco Carrara blocks directly from the Tuscany quarry area and cuts them at our own facility in Shuitou, China. The stone is Italian; the processing is ours. Because we hold the blocks rather than buying finished slabs on the open market, we keep the block number and cutting sequence, reserve consecutive slabs, and open orders from 50 m² instead of requiring a full container.

We hold several current Carrara selections at the same time. Before material is committed to an order, we compare those batches by background tone, vein character, slab condition, dimensions and project budget.

Carrara Marble Slab Specifications

Actual slab dimensions depend on the block and the production batch. For projects requiring large slabs, consecutive pieces or a specific appearance range, we check the current material before quoting.

Honed Carrara. A honed surface reads softer and lower in sheen than polished, and shows surface marking less.

What Does Carrara White Marble Look Like?

Carrara is not a uniform pure-white stone. Its characteristic appearance combines a cool creamy-white to grey-white field with fine light-grey veining. The veins may read as thin threads, soft feather-like lines or subtle cloudy movement across the slab.

Better balanced selections keep a relatively quiet relationship between the background and the veins. Instead of strong black-and-white contrast, classic Bianco Carrara has a softer visual transition, allowing the material to read as light and restrained across a larger surface.

The marble also has a relatively fine crystalline character. Background tone, vein density and visible natural features vary from block to block, so the actual slab should be the final basis for material selection.

Carrara is often compared with Calacatta and Statuario. The practical difference is contrast: Calacatta and Statuario normally show a whiter background with bolder, more defined veining, while Carrara reads softer and greyer across a large surface. Buyers who need a quiet, light field usually stay with Carrara; buyers who want the veining to be a visible feature usually move toward Calacatta or Statuario.

Carrara C, C/D and Different Slab Selections

C and C/D are commonly used trade designations for Bianco Carrara. C selections tend toward a lighter background with finer or less dominant veining, while the transition toward C/D brings a progressively greyer background and more visible veining.

These designations do not replace inspection of the actual slabs. Within the same commercial description, individual blocks and batches still differ in background whiteness, warm or yellow undertones, vein thickness and distribution, cloud-like grey areas, mineral marks, natural fissuring, resin repair, available dimensions and overall batch consistency.

How We Select Better Carrara Slabs

For projects requiring a cleaner and more consistent Carrara appearance, we prioritize four things.

Background. A preferred selection has a relatively uniform cool creamy-white background, with stable whiteness across the slab and across the required batch.

Veining. Fine light-grey thread-like or feather-like veins with a natural flowing direction give the classic Carrara appearance. The overall pattern should stay balanced rather than being dominated by isolated coarse veins or concentrated mineral areas.

Slab integrity. Fewer natural fissures and limited visible resin repair provide more usable material and simplify later cutting. Small natural features do not automatically make a slab unsuitable — what matters is their extent, location, stability and effect on the usable area.

Batch consistency. For larger projects we select slabs from the same block or a closely matched batch, so that background tone and vein style stay consistent across multiple pieces.

What Should Buyers Check When Selecting Carrara Slabs?

Carrara should be evaluated as an actual batch rather than from a single sample. Six checks matter more than the rest.

1. Compare the background in natural light

View several slabs together rather than one at a time, and compare the overall white/grey tone. What you are looking for is whether one slab becomes obviously warmer, yellower, darker or greyer than the rest of the batch.

2. Look at the veins across the batch, not on one slab

For projects using several slabs, the relationship between the slabs is usually more important than the appearance of any single piece.

3. Inspect fissures and repairs under side light

Side lighting makes resin-filled areas, pits, depressions and surface irregularities far easier to identify than front lighting.

The question is not simply whether resin repair exists — natural marble often requires reinforcement. The question is whether the repair is stable, visually acceptable and limited enough not to reduce the usable area you need.

4. Calculate the effective usable area

For cut-to-size projects, check where the natural features fall relative to the required cutting layout. A visually strong slab can still give poor yield if cracks, repairs or unwanted areas run directly through the required components.

5. Check dimensions and surface condition

Thickness consistency, flatness, polishing consistency, scratches, grinding marks and edge damage should be checked before fabrication or shipment.

6. Check the block number and slab sequence

Where matching matters, confirm the block number, the slab sequence, consecutive slab availability and the quantity available from the same block or batch. This is decisive for bookmatching, large walls, repeated panels and any layout requiring visual continuity.

Acceptable Natural Variation and Downgrade Conditions

Normally acceptable natural variation. Depending on the agreed selection, acceptable variation includes:

• Minor changes in fine grey vein density
• Slight background tone variation within the selected batch range
• Occasional millimeter-scale mineral points
• Fine natural hairline fissures that remain stable after proper resin treatment
• Isolated small pinholes after suitable repair
• Minor crystalline differences across the surface

Conditions that lower the selection grade. A slab is downgraded or excluded from a specified project when it shows:

• Large yellow or dark-grey areas
• Strong colour bands outside the agreed appearance range
• Heavy black veins or concentrated dark mineral clusters
• Through-cracks or structurally unstable fissures
• Dense pits or depressions
• Extensive visible resin repair that materially reduces usable area or appearance quality
• Obvious oxidized pyrite or potentially unstable metallic inclusions
• Weak or structurally loose stone zones
• Strong slab-to-slab colour jumps that prevent consistent large-area installation

From Carrara Raw Blocks to Consecutive Slabs

Excellent Stone holds Italian Carrara raw blocks, so our supply is not limited to whatever finished slabs happen to be on the market at one moment. Blocks are cut to the slab sizes, thicknesses and finishes a project requires, and throughout that process we retain the block number, the slab cutting sequence, the consecutive slabs and the same-block or same-batch selection.

We reserve consecutive slabs while a selection is being confirmed, so the vein relationship can be reviewed before a bookmatched or continuous layout is committed.

We compare several current Carrara selections at different appearance and price levels. Before an order is confirmed, we send you photos and video of the batches we are holding — individual slabs, several slabs side by side, background tone, vein distribution, slab dimensions, available quantity, consecutive slab availability and same-block options.

The material is then matched against your project’s appearance requirement, specification, quantity and budget. We quote on the actual selected material and required specification, not on the assumption that every Carrara slab is interchangeable — because two batches carrying the same material name still differ noticeably in whiteness, vein character, slab size and consistency.

Once Carrara material is selected and approved, it continues into our stone-processing operation in Shuitou. Processing includes:

Processing Accuracy and Quality Control

Material selection and fabrication quality are separate issues. A visually strong Carrara slab still needs controlled processing when it becomes a finished project piece. For fabricated project components, our confirmed working accuracy is:

Finished project pieces are measured rather than sample-checked. We inspect dimensions, thickness, diagonal accuracy, flatness, surface and polished finish, edge position, cutout positions, piece identification and drawing-related fabrication details. Inspection results are photographed and filed with the project record.

Slab Packing and Export Protection

Carrara slabs are prepared for international container shipment using protective slab packing:

• Strong wooden slab frames or bundles
• Foam protection and separation between slabs
• Edge protection
• Fixing and strapping
• Fumigated wooden packing as standard

Before loading, we recheck quantity and packing condition. We photograph every loaded container and keep the container information, packing records and shipment records on file.
